Political alliances in Est Africa

One who had observed political alliances in Est Africa nowadays can say that the ethiopian governement is becoming more and more isolated. Neighboring country Eritrea , had since it´s creation in 1993 a very good relation with most of the armed rebel´s of the region .Western countries, who once saw a democrate in the eyes of Pm Meles of Ethiopia are taking their distance because of his brutal actions against oppositions supporters.

Besides that the Eritrean governement is becoming a threat for the ethiopian governement security since 1998. Eritrea supports OLF (oromia liberation front) an armed rebel group fighting the ethiopian governement for the independance of Oromia. Eritrea supports also another rebel group operating in the Amhara region which is called, the ethiopian patriotic front or (Arebegnoch Genbar) created in the USA whose main goal is to establish democracy in Ethiopia with indepedant , judiciary, parlamentary institutions .It is also important to note that Eritrea has a good contact with the ogaden liberation front , and also the gambela liberation front.

Meanwhile, Meles Zenawi whose choice was to charm the west over democratic principles in order to get allys and budgetary support is loosing it´s credentials when his security forces fired live bullets on peacefull demonstrators in june and november 2005. His recent crackdown on leaders , members , supporters of the coalition for unity and democracy party CUDP, local press editors , journalists, civic organisations and human right councellors had cost him the end of any kind of financial support , especially budgetary supports from donor countries.One has to remind that the regime used to get 1 billion dollar a year , which represents 40 % of the Ethiopian annual budget.

Most recently his close ally Tony Blair who once regarded him as a progressiv african leader has snubbed him in a conference held in South Africa as a sign of a growing dissatisfaction .The EU-parliament had adopted a resolution condemning Meles Zenawi over his human rights violations and decided to freez 375 million dollars of budgetary support.

The poor people of Ethiopia who believed that democracy is possible in their country are disappointed, their only hope is to see the implementation of the EU resolution and an end of their daily human rights violations.

Where is Meles Zenawi going to look for an international support from now on ?
Communist countries like China , Cuba , Venezuella ??? well let´s see.........
